When I came to DC about a year and a half ago I had grand ambitions of keeping a blog so that my friends and family could track my adventures throughout my fellowship. Unfortunately once the whirlwind of my fellowship began, it became pretty clear to me that I probably would not have enough time to write a blog. So that explains why this blog pretty much went nowhere. So why am I attempting to pick this up again? Am I setting myself up for failure ? Quite possibly, but I am about to embark on a new adventure (in less than 24 hours) to the tiny island of Dominica and I really want to share my experience. Before we go into all of that, lets take a look at where I have been for the past year and a half.
Places I traveled to: San Francisco (3x's), Nashville, Kansas City, Orlando, Chicago, Mobile, Savannah, Ft.Lauderdale, Tampa, Toledo, Hartford, Gloucester, Raleigh, New Orleans, Seattle, Alaska (Anchorage area), Bering Sea, and probably several other places that I can't remember at the moment.
Cool stuff that I got to do: Flew on a Hurricane Hunter airplane, caught sharks in the Gulf of Mexico, survived 20+ft seas in the Bering Sea, talked to hundreds of educators across the nation about all the cool stuff NOAA does, invited to the White House Easter Egg Roll to teach kids science, visited several museums and government buildings in DC (including the CIA), wrote a speech for a former astronaut, and I got to meet and work with some amazing people along the way.
