Dominica Bound

Last July I was at the National Marine Educators conference and I was introduced to a program called Floating Classrooms. The program is run through a group called the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). I am still learning more about them as I go, but for the most part they save animals throughout the world and spread conservation messages.

The Floating Classrooms program is pretty cool because they go into elementary schools in Dominica and provide professional development for the teachers and also teach the students all about the ocean . I am super excited because tomorrow I leave for Dominica to serve as one of the educators in the Floating Classrooms program for the next two weeks. I am still learning what I will actually be doing, but it will definitely entail playing with kids and teaching them about whales, sea turtles, and lots of other cool things about the ocean.

Hopefully I will have time to blog about my experience in the schools and exploring the island of Dominica, so stay tuned.
